Erin Gill announced as the first recipient of the Dr. Herring Scholarship Award. Erin graduated from Franklin High School in 2012. She received the Williamson County Honors Diploma and graduated with a 3.8 grade point average. Erin is a native of Franklin. She is active in her church and has played soccer for many years. She plans to attend UT Martin University where she will major in nursing.
The Doctor Robert W. Herring Jr. Scholarship Foundation was formed in 2010 based upon Dr. Herrings support and belief that everyone should have the opportunity to attend college. Dr. Herring strongly supports higher education and has shown political support of the current Tennessee governs program “Tennessee Promise”.
Dr. Herring’s strong educational beliefs are based upon today’s competitive job market where education is key in obtaining successful employment. “Without undergraduate and graduate studies it is very difficult for America and its workforce to compete in the global economy” stated by Dr. Herring at the announcement of Erin’s selection. Dr. Herring also believes education is the corner stone needed to build business, science and Healthcare leaders of tomorrow.
